Tap into your “WHY”: Rest, Reignite, Realign

As millennial creatives, I think we can all agree that finding inspiration is hard at times! We find our niche, our passion, our purpose and hit the ground running until we hit a wall that introduces us to a season, short or lengthy, where inspo is scarce. I wanted to write this blog, although it may not be for everyone, to simply inspire us to find ways to keep creating.

Before we begin any business venture, write the book, or move forward in the career, there’s the initial reason we deem “it” as something we must do. Whether it be a strong fire or a small flickering flame, that reason is called our WHY. Often, as we grow older and experience more life, our reason(s) may change from one thing to the next. I remember starting my journey as a writer and entrepreneur and specifically, my why was the idea of independence and the ability to own my time so that I could travel and do whatever I felt like doing! THAT particular why inspired me to go harder after every dream that I have. After receiving the news of our baby girl, she THEN became that fire for me. Same goals…different motivation. My desires shifted from freedom rooted in selfishness to desiring only to be able to provide a better future for myself AND my seed. She became my reason. Being able to leave my full-time job in order to spend more time with her as she grows older is still the end goal but my perspective has transitioned.

Typically, there are 3 things I do to help refuel my creative fire so that I can continue to build.

1. REST!!

Contrary to popular belief, I’ve found that it is almost impossible to give 100% if I am totally depleted. It’s okay to sleep! Occasionally, working on fumes will get the job done but it is easier (AND HEALTHIER) to pour from a rejuvenated, well-rested cup.

2. REIGNITE!

Switch up the scenery in which you create! For a very long time, I felt comfort in the stillness of my bedroom (regarding my workspace). That is where my mind found the ability to take ideas and put plans into motion for my brand. Eventually, creating at home became hard because I became uninspired by the solitude. In these moments, I’d hop in my car and take off to the lake or a coffee shop to create; giving my mind a chance to be inspired by new visuals. I’ve found that doing this has helped reignite my creative passions and has provided motivation to complete tasks when I am feeling stumped.

3. REALIGN!

DON’T BE AFRAID TO TAKE A BREAK in order to regain focus. I force myself to take time to enjoy the things that make me happy OUTSIDE of writing and creating content in order to reduce my chances of dealing with writer’s block or feeling “burned out”. Doing this gives me much needed time to recharge so that I can return to the drawing board refreshed and refocused.

Although moments of Rest, Reignition, and Realignment may not look the same for everyone, these moments are STILL important (no matter what they look like) for our creative processes. Allow these moments to provide revitalization as you reflect on and remember what motivated you to begin

Xoxo,

Christiauna
